Support for the Good Jobs Bill
That this Assembly expresses support and solidarity to workers and trade unions who have long campaigned to strengthen workers’ rights and entitlements; acknowledges the landmark legislation that has been already implemented in this mandate to give workers paid miscarriage leave; endorses the ambitions of the Minister for the Economy’s proposed legislation which will bring about the most significant and comprehensive improvements to workers’ rights since devolution; commends the Minister’s consistent and ongoing engagement and dialogue with representative groups from the business community in developing the bill; recognises that 80 per cent of the public support the proposed good jobs bill according to Lucid Talk polling; further recognises the benefits that improved workers’ rights can have for businesses and the economy, in terms of improving productivity, reducing staff turnover and employee satisfaction; and supports the Minister for the Economy’s intention to introduce this bill and strengthen workers’ rights within this mandate.
