A Moratorium on Mineral Licensing - Amendment 1
Leave out all after ‘new mineral prospecting licences;’’ and insert:
‘notes that the recent mineral prospecting licences do not include licences relating to gold or silver; further notes that responsibility for licensing relating to gold and silver is a reserved matter and currently sits with the Crown Estate; acknowledges that the Department has received legal advice that, due to the length of time it will take to complete the review of the legislative framework, a moratorium on mineral prospecting licensing would not be legal; recognises that the current regulatory framework for mineral licensing is not fit for purpose; welcomes the Minister for the Economy’s ongoing review to develop a mineral licensing system that ensures the highest standards of environmental protection; and calls on the Minister for Economy to progress the review of the mineral licensing system as a priority.’
