Impact of US Trade Tariffs on Northern Ireland’s Economy
That this Assembly expresses grave concern about the impact of US import tariffs on Northern Ireland’s economy; agrees that there are no winners in global trade wars and that the imposition of tariffs will put trade, businesses and jobs in Northern Ireland at risk; calls on the Minister for the Economy to make robust representations to the UK and Irish Governments and the EU, to ensure that their response to the tariffs serves the best interests of business and workers in Northern Ireland; and further calls on the Minister to work with the UK Government to implement a support package for local businesses impacted by the tariffs, including measures to maximise Northern Ireland’s unique dual-market access, help and advice on accessing new global markets, promotion of a shop local campaign, and delivery of a new manufacturing strategy.
