Text
Paid Carer’s Leave
That this Assembly recognises the significant contribution to our economy and society made by the more than 220,000 people who are providing unpaid care for family and friends in Northern Ireland; acknowledges the economic and social impact of carers being forced out of the workplace or to reduce their hours due to the demands of caring responsibilities; regrets the lack of progress made on delivering paid carer’s leave since the Assembly passed a motion on the issue in March 2024; and calls on the Minister for the Economy to develop an informed assessment of the benefits of the provision of paid carer’s leave, and the potential cost to businesses, the economy and welfare spending of not doing so, within his forthcoming good jobs employment rights Bill.
