Cost of Living Pressures on Rural Communities
That this Assembly recognises that, whilst poverty and social isolation exist in both urban and rural areas, it is widely acknowledged that those living in rural areas often experience poverty and social isolation differently due to issues relating to geographical isolation, lower population density, reduced public services and the dispersed nature of many rural settlements; further recognises that prior to soaring inflation and energy price increases, rural households across Northern Ireland were already experiencing poverty and financial vulnerability, and that these households will be hardest hit by the increasing cost of living, leaving many more rural dwellers in poverty; calls on the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to bring forward urgently an action plan to tackle rural poverty; and further calls for the establishment of a joint departmental and local government task force to address these issues.
