Text
I am sure that it is very bad for morale. I understand the disappointment, and I have acknowledged that my decision was counter-strategic, but, given the financial constraints that I face, it was unavoidable. Social care staff make an essential contribution — absolutely — and, if we had more of them, they could do more. I share the ambition to establish the sector as a real living wage sector as soon as finances allow. That is a very important step towards improving the flow out of the back door, but there is more to be done, and mileage allowance, terms and conditions and work-life balance are all in the mix.
