Text

The issue is about which organisation is the employer and therefore should carry forward the scheme. Frankly, the issue of which has primary responsibility is a matter for the Policing Board to resolve with the PSNI. Until there is agreement on that, there is no point in our preparing legislation with respect to what else might need to be done. The ongoing review is wider than that; it also looks at what needs to be done more generally to make the scheme sustainable and to ensure that whichever organisation ends up taking it forward remains ready to take on those responsibilities. Once it is agreed, we will look at a potential legislative vehicle that will allow us to make good progress.
