Text
I support the proposal to extend the Committee Stage of the Marriage Bill in order to allow for fuller scrutiny of the draft legislation, which will raise the minimum age for marriage and civil partnership to 18 and make involvement in causing a child to enter into that arrangement a criminal offence. It is a piece of draft legislation that has equality and human rights at its core. Extending the Committee Stage will help to ensure that the Bill is given the detailed consideration that it deserves.
