Text

I thank the Member for taking an intervention. I recognise that issue and declare an interest as the parent of a child who went through Gaelscoil Uí Néill in Coalisland and is now in the Irish-medium sector, attending St Joseph's Grammar School in Donaghmore. That has been a constant issue. Does the Member agree that it puts constant pressure on the teaching staff and school leaders, who feel that they have to do extra work in order to ensure that those children are able to stay in their school? In Gaelscoil Uí Néill, the principal did Makaton with all the children in his school from day dot. He put in extra work every day, as did his teaching staff and classroom assistants. That is unfair.
