Text
I thank the Member for his question. Representation is incredibly important. The reality is that global events such as these have an impact on the people of Northern Ireland, and it is important that we know and are informed about what is happening. From a UK perspective, it is the right of the people of Northern Ireland and the Government in Northern Ireland to be informed about those matters. We are primarily focused on ensuring that the people of Northern Ireland get the support that they need, including in defence. Having a strong defence is critical for the entire UK. The Member and I were at a conference together, and we talked about the importance of, for example, the Royal Navy’s role in protecting undersea cables not just in Northern Ireland and the UK but, indeed, in the Republic of Ireland. All of those issues have an impact on the people of Northern Ireland. I will always turn up, show up, speak up and stand up for Northern Ireland, and I will fight as hard as I can to get the people of Northern Ireland the help and support that they need when they need it.
