Text

I thank the Minister for his statement. The word "regrettable" has been used a number of times by a number of representatives. I am going to use the word "disgrace". It is a disgrace that this piece of proposed legislation has been blocked. It has continued to be blocked at the Executive by the DUP. We have the opportunity and potential to save people's lives. People continue to die because of alcohol, year-on-year. Since 2014, there has been an 80% increase in the number of deaths due to alcohol. It rose to 397 in 2024. We now have an opportunity to change that and save lives. Minister, do you share my disbelief and frustration that the DUP would block this legislation, which gives us the opportunity to save lives?
