Text
We agree that housing is a priority, which is why it is in the Programme for Government, but we have spent an awful lot of time today talking about the constrained Budget that we have and the fact that we are underfunded. That is why we make that case. Policy decisions that are taken in London to prioritise military spending over public services have a real impact on people here. That is why I believe that, in the longer term, we would be much better placed to fight our own corner by having all the powers devolved here and working together in a new constitutional arrangement. Whilst we work towards that point, I make the case at every turn for better funding of our public services, including housing. I will continue to do so, as First Minister. We are underfunded. The British Government are underfunding us, and that impacts on our ability to deliver on the things that I know we are all passionate about because, like you, my office is inundated with messages from people who are struggling to get a home and a roof over their head for their families.
