Text

I thank the Member for giving way. Whilst that was a reflection on what I said, what I meant was my community. The Member cannot say with a straight face that the release of terrorists onto the streets did not retraumatise victims and that the disbandment of an organisation that lost hundreds of officers at the hands of paramilitaries was not a serious issue for my community.

Assessment

Not flagged

Not flagged on a second assessment, because Jev’s answers did not settle it. The reasons are given below.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.60 (flagging needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not flagged).
  • Criteria met: Identity framing (0.73).
  • No identity-based framing was identified (0.50).
  • Subject area: Legacy of the Troubles, victims and paramilitarism.
  • The answers did not meet either automatic threshold.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.

Second assessment

Jev’s answers did not settle this record, so a second model, claude-opus-5-5, read the same text (without the MLA’s name or party) and gave its reasons on 21 October 2026. How the second assessment works

Public interest or divisiveness

Against the published rubric

The intervention frames the prisoner releases and the disbandment of a police force as grievances of "my community", so there is a degree of identity framing. However, it does not portray another community as a whole as hostile or illegitimate. Its references to "terrorists" concern people convicted of paramilitary offences, not a community. It uses no coded language and makes no symbolic complaint about flags, culture or language. It also raises a substantive point about victims being "retraumatised", so it falls short of the rubric's test for identity-based point-scoring.

Public interest or divisiveness

This is a short clarification in a live debate, explaining how a past political settlement affected victims and police families in the speaker's community. It voices a communal perspective on a legacy flashpoint, which keeps a long-running argument alive. But its substance is harm to victims and to an organisation that "lost hundreds of officers", which is a legitimate matter of representation. Both elements are present, but neither hostility nor grievance clearly dominates.
