Text

I thank the Member for giving way. I hope that I am not misrepresenting him when I say that he talks about a return to the factory settings of the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement and, indeed, the consensus that it indicated. Will he agree that there was no consensus for the widespread release of terrorist prisoners back into the very communities of people whom they had terrorised? That is fundamental. The Belfast Agreement did not deliver the equilibrium for me or, indeed, my community that some in the House claim it did.

Assessment

Not flagged

Not flagged on a second assessment, because Jev’s answers did not settle it. The reasons are given below.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.60 (flagging needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not flagged).
  • Criteria met: Identity framing (0.67).
  • The text adopts the identity-based framing in its own voice (0.64).
  • Subject area: Legacy of the Troubles, victims and paramilitarism.
  • The answers did not meet either automatic threshold.

Second assessment

Jev’s answers did not settle this record, so a second model, claude-opus-5-5, read the same text (without the MLA’s name or party) and gave its reasons on 21 October 2026. How the second assessment works

Against the published rubric

The intervention disputes another member's claim that the Belfast/Good Friday Agreement reflected a consensus, citing the release of "terrorist prisoners back into the very communities" they had harmed. It does use a communal frame, saying the Agreement did not deliver "for me or, indeed, my community". However, its criticism is aimed at a specific policy and at people convicted of terrorist offences, not at a whole community or its culture, and it uses no loaded labels or coded attacks. It reads as a contested argument about the record of the peace settlement and its effect on victims, which the rubric treats as legitimate, rather than as identity point-scoring.

Public interest or divisiveness

The contribution engages directly with the argument being made in the debate and puts victims' objections to early prisoner releases on the record, a substantive issue in the legacy of the Troubles. The phrase "my community" does frame the settlement partly as one community's loss, which carries some divisive weight. On balance, it is a political argument about the Agreement's legitimacy and its impact on victims, not hostility towards a group, though both elements are present.
