Text

It is an important issue. I have met parents who are advocating for change in that area. There has been protracted engagement with my officials and the various interests around that, including the teaching trade unions. There is a difference of opinion as to the best way forward from those in the teaching unions when it comes to some of these practices and those who, ultimately, have to work in our classrooms. However, I believe that there is a clear need for accountability, for record-keeping and for people to be informed when their child is engaged in any form of practice to monitor behaviour or different situations that can be challenging in schools. That information has to be provided, and we continue to work to try to find a way forward on this difficult matter.

Assessment

Not flagged

Jev’s structured answers met the documented threshold for “not flagged”.

  • Overall probability that the activity is being used to promote, exploit or escalate an identity-based controversy: 0.04 (flagging needs at least 0.70; at or below 0.30 is not flagged).
  • None of the five culture-war criteria was met (each was below 0.60).
  • Assessed as legitimate policy scrutiny (0.88).
  • No identity-based framing was identified (1.00).
  • The overall probability was at or below the not-flagging threshold.

This is an AI-generated assessment of the text, made against published criteria. It is not a finding of fact about the MLA or their intentions. The Assembly record itself is the fact.
