Text
No, I do not accept that I did not show any empathy. I believe that that is wrong. I hope that she will hold her Ministers to the same standards, because, during the Bobby Storey funeral — the disgrace that was that event — I did not hear her comment once about the actions of the Sinn Féin Ministers and MLAs who took part in that funeral. Where was the empathy for those who had to bury their loved ones alone? Where was her empathy for those who did not get a chance to say goodbye? Sinn Féin is quite happy to do what it wants without showing any empathy, but, in this instance, it is content to forget all about that.

Against the published rubric
The text defends the speaker against a charge of lacking empathy over the Ballymena disorder by turning to the Bobby Storey funeral, calling it "the disgrace that was that event" and asking "where was the empathy" for bereaved families during the pandemic. The criticism is aimed at specific conduct by named Ministers and MLAs of one party, namely attending a funeral when others "had to bury their loved ones alone". It does not attribute that conduct to a community, use coded language about a group, or frame the issue as one tradition against another. On the rubric, this is partisan criticism of a party's record rather than identity framing or communal antagonism.
Public interest or divisiveness
The contribution does little to advance the public interest, because it sidesteps the question about the Ballymena disorder and replaces it with a counter-accusation. Its evident function is partisan whataboutery, with phrases such as "Sinn Féin is quite happy to do what it wants". The event it invokes is sensitive across communities, and raising it in a debate on racist disorder risks keeping a wider row going. But its stated grievance concerns Covid-era double standards that affected bereaved people generally, not hostility towards any group, so both elements are present.
