Text
I thank the Member for that question. The Department actively promotes employee ownership as a way of delivering good jobs and strengthening our local economy. I have provided £100,000 to Employee Ownership Ireland to raise awareness of the employee ownership trust model and to support businesses that are exploring a transition to that model as part of their succession planning. Early results highlight the benefits for employees that are generated by the model. For example, S&W Wholesale in Newry has given out over £1 million in staff bonuses since becoming employee-owned. There are really good examples of businesses that have taken up the model to the benefit of the business and its workforce.
