Text
The Member is absolutely right: we know that suicide is devastating for the family and friends but also for the community. We often see a number of suicides in a particular area, and that can compound the impact. We can do more work collaboratively. There are factors that are indicators of suicide. Those who live in deprivation and young men who live alone are categories that, unfortunately, have a much higher rate of suicide. We can target that because we have a wide range of interventions across the Department of Justice and the Department for Communities, and, importantly, we have the data to identify those who are the most vulnerable. It is a key area for cross-departmental working, and it needs to be embedded across the Executive. I will raise the matter again with the Minister of Health, who takes the lead on the issue. However, the Member is absolutely right: all Departments can do more to work together.
