Text
We were able to make a formal offer on teachers' pay through the employers to the trade unions last week. That process is being taken forward by the trade unions through their consultation process. I trust that the process will come to a satisfactory conclusion and that we will be able to formally implement the 4% increase in teachers' pay and backdate it to 1 September 2025, which is the starting point for their financial year when it comes to pay. However, progress has been made.
That is a demonstration of the ongoing work to normalise industrial relations. It is the right decision to cover the teachers' pay award, and I trust that we will be able to implement it formally in the next number of weeks.
