Text

The Department is currently leading on an ePharmacy programme, a central component of which is the electronic transfer of prescriptions (ETP) project, which will introduce a fully electronic system to replace the current paper-based prescription process. That system will enable the secure transmission of prescriptions from prescribers to community pharmacies and onward to the Business Services Organisation for processing and payment. The Department has included the ETP project in its 10-year capital investment plan, with an indicative start date of 2027 at the earliest. Work is currently under way to develop an outline business case that will set out the strategic, economic and financial justification for the project. I remain hopeful that, subject to securing the required funding, the project can commence in 2027 and be completed by 2032.
