Text
Mr O'Toole asked the First Minister and deputy First Minister, in indicating that he will lay a wreath here tomorrow on behalf of the SDLP, because he recognises the importance of Remembrance Day, particularly but not only to the unionist community, whether they agree that political leaders have a duty, in word and deed, to embody empathy and reconciliation in this shared society, given that he has taken the deputy First Minister at her word that her priority is to attend Remembrance Day services tomorrow, and further asked why not one of the DUP's more than 150 elected representatives is able to attend the inauguration of a president who is important to many people in this society.

Against the published rubric
The question challenges a party's decision not to send any representative to the Irish President's inauguration and contrasts it with the questioner's own plan to lay a Remembrance wreath. It frames this as a test of whether leaders "embody empathy and reconciliation in this shared society". It does not portray unionists or their culture as a group in a hostile way, and it explicitly affirms "the importance of remembrance". The pointed "why not one" jab and the follow-up charge of "a journey of fear, grievance and anger" do score a point over a symbolic matter. Even so, they criticise a party's conduct and political direction rather than attributing hostility to a whole community.
Public interest or divisiveness
The main thrust is a call for political leaders, including joint office-holders responsible for reconciliation, to show mutual recognition of both traditions' important occasions. That is a legitimate subject of accountability. However, it is delivered through an attempt to embarrass an opposing party over attendance at a symbolic event, which keeps a communal argument running even as it calls for reconciliation. Both elements are substantial.
