Text
The Lough Neagh report and action plan sets out a range of actions that we plan to take or have already taken. That applies not just to Lough Neagh but to other waterbodies. The river basin management plan has also been agreed and sets out further actions. Fundamentally, it comes down to simple but difficult decisions, which is that we need to reduce the amount of sewage pollution going into our rivers, lakes and loughs. We also need to have better ways of managing slurry, manure and synthetic fertilisers in Northern Ireland. We also need to have better management of septic tanks. I believe that we can do it. It is difficult, but we can do it and find a way forward to improve water quality in Northern Ireland.
