Text
There are a couple of things. First, I am aware that a number of people who have approached their solicitor about the waiver for legal aid in domestic violence cases have been advised that it was not available or sent down a different track. We engaged with the Law Society, asking it to provide its practitioners with more information on that, so that they are fully aware that the waiver is an option. The second issue is the feedback that we received from the legal profession itself, which shows that obtaining the waiver can be quite a tricky and engaged process. We are, therefore, looking at how to simplify the process to make it more accessible for practitioners and, ultimately, their clients.
