Text

I thank the Minister for bringing forward the statement today. I want to deal in facts, as he said. There were no new policies — not issues — developed before the Executive agreed the strategy. The anti-poverty coalition was stood down by you. The child payment in Scotland reduced poverty from 26% to 22% and absolute poverty from 23% to 17%. Our Ministers put forward suggestions. I take you at your word, however, that, in the implementation of the strategy through the action plan, we will see targets. In my constituency of North Belfast, 28% of children live in poverty. Will the action plan include constituency-based initiatives to target child poverty?
