Text

The Arts Council is an arm's-length body of my Department that is tasked with the distribution of funding for the arts in Northern Ireland. It does not fund using place-based criteria. Belfast is the registered address of many organisations that, in practice, provide funding well beyond the Belfast postcode area, so I caution that funding statistics do not always tell the full story of where beneficiaries are located. However, I want to ensure that priority is given to provide support that reaches younger people, people from more deprived areas, those living in rural areas and areas distant from Belfast and those not currently engaged in cultural activities.
