Text
We are taking action to streamline. The Department is holding a 12-week public consultation on proposals to simplify the sentencing framework by introducing a single, flexible order that will be supervised by a single organisation in the Youth Justice Agency. The duration and requirements of an order will be tailored to the seriousness of the offence, the needs and best interests of the child and the risk of harm and reoffending. It will be underpinned by restorative justice principles that have been a successful feature of the youth justice system in Northern Ireland for the past two decades. It will enable victims' views to be part of the process. I encourage anyone who has not already engaged with the public consultation to do so.
