Text
That question comes up quite a lot: as I have said, it is one that I have also asked as a constituency MLA. It is fair to say that funding allocations are made in the most equitable way across all DFI Roads divisions in the North. There is a complex methodology for how funding is allocated, but it is based primarily on need. There are different schemes, which are worked out by the divisions. The funding stats for each of the divisions are accessible through the Department and have been accessed through questions for written answer, of which I am sure the Member is aware. The decisions on how that funding is allocated within the divisions are taken by the staff in those areas, who are best placed to know the greatest needs in those areas. If the Member has specifics to ask about, I am happy to follow up with the relevant section offices and divisions. It is fair to say that we could make comparisons without understanding the mechanics of all those things and what quantifies greater need in some areas. The methodology is very complex — I have asked those questions myself — and sometimes it does not look like that on the face of it.
