Text
Minister, you have said in the Chamber today that you are glad that you were "blissfully unaware" of what was happening. That concerns me, because I would like to think that, as Minister, you would be taking the lead, and it is a Minister's job to know exactly what is going on while working with the trusts. I turn to the report itself. Over 70 staff were interviewed, and they were treated as whistle-blowers in order to provide anonymity. The situation in the unit was described as "chaos". Junior staff described being bullied, with incidents of implements being thrown in theatre. Why did the Belfast Trust allow the situation to escalate to the stage where, the report states:
"The cultural issues in this unit represent a significant risk to patient safety"?
How were patient —
— outcomes affected during that time?
