Text
The recent Supreme Court judgement on the For Women Scotland Ltd v The Scottish Ministers ruled that, for the purposes of the Equality Act 2010, the definitions of "sex", "man" and "woman" refer to biological sex. The issue is under consideration in the Department and right across government. It is important to remember that the judgement is likely to have tangential and other impacts. It is likely to have an impact here in Northern Ireland. I have no doubt that, over the next number of weeks, there will be much discourse and debate and that guidance and other things will be issued. It is also important that our public bodies, Departments and others pay attention to the judgement and make sure that they comply with the law.
