Text
I thank the Member for his input. Fiscal appropriation should be the concern of all the Ministries, Departments and Members here. I have no issue with that. In reality, what we have faced over the past couple of weeks — we have all spoken about it and made comment on it — is avoidable. Some Members have said that the burning was deliberate, but we can embark on a package of work, and the Climate Commissioner and the commission can play a specific role in that. Why would that be important to Northern Ireland? It is because Northern Ireland should set the standard for everything. We should not be behind the eight ball when it comes to protecting and cherishing our environment and being the lead voice in making Northern Ireland the place that it should be. Part of that is about protecting our environment and heritage, not to mention the impact on our wildlife. I do not want to demonise anyone, but we need to get on with this at pace.
