Text
With your permission, Mr Speaker, I will group questions 3 and 8. My officials are working closely with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to co-design the North's £150 million enhanced investment zone programme. The focus of the programme must be consistent with the British Government's objectives and priority sectors, and it is likely to concentrate on the advanced manufacturing sector. That sector cuts across many areas, including green industries and life and health sciences, employs an estimated 80,000 people and accounts for half of our export sales. The development of the programme must follow a five-stage approval process, and the target for final approval is autumn 2025. Key to securing approval at each stage is a clear demonstration that the investment zone funding will drive productivity and leverage significant private-sector funding. During March, my Department hosted regional workshops with the private sector and other stakeholders. To help develop that work, we have put out a call for evidence to the attendees.
