Text
Unfortunately, we do not know the costs. That is another of the problems that we have with the way in which the Government have announced the changes. When they were originally announced, we were told that they would save £5 billion across the UK, which, on a pro rata basis, would have been over £150 million for Northern Ireland. That has now changed, and the newest estimate to come back was £3·4 billion. The fact that the Government were so far out on how much this has cost is, I believe, an indication that they do not really know what impact it will have. That means that we do not know the impact that it will have on Northern Ireland, which makes me think that this has not been well thought through.
