Text

In the past three years, an average of 1·7% of all community orders made in the Youth Court were community service orders. The figures for the individual years were 1·7% in 2021, 0·8% in 2022 and 2·7% in 2023. Those figures relate to cases where the main disposal was a community order. The figures are for initial disposals at court and do not include appeals. Persons given a community service order must undertake at least 40 hours of unpaid work in the community within a 12-month period. The orders are supervised by the Probation Board. The young person must be 16 years of age or over and must consent to the order. The unpaid work must not interfere with their education, work or religious beliefs.
