Text

Yes. That is why it is important that the commissioner is in place. I am sure that the deputy First Minister would agree that, when we interviewed Siobhan, we saw that she had real passion for being an advocate for older people. She has a great depth of experience from her previous role, which will really enhance her offering to our older population. The role of the commissioner is quite wide in promoting an awareness of matters that relate to older people and their safeguarding. It includes challenging discrimination and promoting positive attitudes, and I can tell you from my experience of her interview that Siobhan will be energetic on behalf of older people.
