Text

Yes, I will continue to work with the council. My Department will do that. One lesson that has to be learnt from the storm concerns the real impact that it has had on our forestry estate and what we can do in response. Forest Service plans to plant native trees predominantly in areas where a previous forest crop has been clear-felled. Native woodland planting on those sites follows the approved design plan for the forest and areas that include riparian zones that are adjacent to existing native woodland or in woodland corridors, providing connectivity for native fauna. Forest Service management regimes also allow for the natural regeneration of locally seeded native trees in areas where there is a seed source and the ground conditions allow for that type of forest establishment.
