Text
I am happy to respond. That issue is wholly unconnected, but it is good to get the building blocks in place in our childcare facilities when it comes to literacy. The evidence indicates that the complete opposite of what the Member outlined is true. Systematic synthetic phonics has been the norm in England since 2006, during which time England has risen rapidly up the international levels. We have a strong phonics-based approach, but the evidence suggests that systematic synthetic phonics is the best approach to building a strong literacy foundation. The context for using phonics can also be applied, but the evidence indicates that the best approach to literacy for our young people is through systematic synthetic phonics.
