Text
The Member touches upon an important issue: it is about not just the financial impact on farmers with regard to compensation but the wider issue around that. There is also an environmental issue in terms of greenhouse gas emissions as a result of overstocking. That is something that I am determined to deal with. I acknowledge those issues and the pressure that they put on farmers. I know that some people feel that we are perhaps moving too fast on this, but I want that delivery plan from the stakeholder group at the end of March, and I want to announce the way forward in April. This is so important to the farming community. That is why we are moving at pace. I assure all Members in the House that the way forward is based upon science and evidence, and it is important that we take all our decisions on the basis of both.
