Text

All Departments' budgets are extremely challenging, as, I am sure, the Member will be aware. The Executive's fiscal position is extremely difficult owing to years of underfunding from the British Government. Indeed, my Department's resource baseline for 2025-26 is 5% less than it was for 2020-21. DFE has £83 million of resource pressures after the additional allocation of £24·9 million, which leaves a funding shortfall of £58 million. DFE was allocated £150 million capital for general allocation, and bids of £145·7 million could not be met as a result. Nevertheless, I will work within the budget available to deliver the best outcomes for the economy and for our citizens.
