Text
I have a lot of respect for the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, and I have been doing a lot of work to improve processing times for applications. There is a further bid for additional staff so that that can be done. One of the issues is to do with applications that are made but do not meet the relevant criteria or cannot be properly assessed because of a requirement for additional information. We need to raise awareness about what is required. Some of my engagement with stakeholders on ammonia, for example, is on whether additional information can be provided in advance of an application being made. That will, hopefully, help to speed up processing times. There will be further engagement on ammonia this month with stakeholders so that we can, hopefully, get agreement on the way forward. We can then issue guidance that, hopefully, will mean that, when people put in applications, there is no need for re-consultation.
