Text
I thank the Member for her question. There are two aspects to that. There was a discussion about an all-Ireland animal cruelty register. I met Minister Charlie McConalogue in Dublin a while ago to discuss that, and, at that meeting, he outlined that there are no current plans to bring in a register in the South. Obviously, that causes issues for the North. I asked officials to review the possibilities around the proposal, and we will look at the future pathways for animal welfare and at whether having the ability to look at AccessNI checks is one of the ways that we could resolve the issue while getting round data protection and GDPR, which are key issues in the matter.
