Text
I thank the Member for his supplementary question. People must remember that it is an offence not to license their dog. Although dog licensing is a council matter, my Department is working with stakeholders on key priorities on licensing and encouraging compliance, as the income funds for the essential dog warden service in councils are assisted by the dog licence fee. Later this week, I will meet councils. We will discuss further how we can encourage greater uptake of dog licensing. On the specific issue, we must go with the figures that we have for the number of dogs that are licensed. It is important that we encourage people to license their dogs.
