Text
Ultimately, the decision to go to recruitment is one for the Chief Constable, and it is for the Chief Constable to be confident that he has the money to recruit new officers. As I explained earlier, we do have a business case that is under preparation with my officials and the PSNI at the moment. We hope to take that to the Department of Finance, and hopefully that will secure funding not just for this year but over the next three years for us to grow the PSNI to a more stable and representative level. In the interim, I think that the Chief Constable has reached a conclusion that he has to go out to recruit, even if only to ensure that there is no further fall in numbers due to attrition.
