Text
I welcome the Office for Environmental Protection report. It is a constructive contribution to the issue of bathing water quality in Northern Ireland. The Member rightly outlines that people are using our bathing waters not only for swimming but for other things, such as surfing and paddleboarding. I have to confess that I have not yet taken the plunge in open-water swimming but I might be persuaded to do it if the Member is prepared to join me. We will consider the report's recommendations in the time ahead, because a number of them are policy recommendations that also require not just resources but working in partnership with councils. I met those partners last week at Crawfordsburn Country Park. We had a useful engagement on those issues and talked about the Office for Environmental Protection report. It is key for me, in an area where bathing waters are very popular, that we seek to strengthen what we can do in that area.
