Text
One of the key issues — you have raised it — is how we work together as a Government to ensure that the needs of rural communities are heard and acted upon. In conjunction with officials, we will be moving very soon to consultation on future rural affairs policy. It is not just my Department that has a role to play. All Departments have a role in that, and it is about bringing that together so that we can take a much more unified approach. You outlined issues that are being faced in rural communities. There is another particular issue: childcare. Childcare is not just an urban issue, it is particularly an issue in rural communities. There is also mental health and how much more we can support rural communities on those issues. I am looking forward to going out to consultation on that rural affairs policy. That will be key, and I am really valuing the input from the Committee on these issues.
