Text
I am more than happy to try to identify ways of extracting as much funding as I can. I will engage with officials about practice that is being deployed in other parts of the United Kingdom so that we maximise the financial resource available to us. We are waiting to see how the Labour Government intend to invest in more significant capital projects. They have talked about — dare I say it — the PFI-type projects of the past, which did not work particularly well when it came to value for money. A number of schools in Northern Ireland were constructed through PFI schemes, the first of which is coming to the end of its life cycle and will move to the Department of Education for ongoing maintenance. The Labour Government have talked about wanting to consider those again. We are keeping a watching brief on that.
