Text
Those schools, because they are new, will require limited maintenance. Behind the question that the Member rightly raises is this: when we make that investment of millions and millions of pounds, if we do not maintain the facilities, we will actually cause harm to that level of investment. That is a real challenge when it comes to the financial needs, but, at the moment, there is insufficient funding for basic maintenance. We are doing only urgent repairs and keeping schools open and safe, but there are many more minor work schemes, major capital builds and school enhancement programmes that we need to take forward. However, that is all subject to having the available resource.
