Text
Invest NI runs a number of programmes to support businesses. Support for small businesses in particular comes through a number of measures that relate to other Departments, including rates relief. There was no specific bid from the Department, because this was returned money that would have been spent in this financial year. That would not allow the development of new processes to start to deliver money. In our bids for funding, we want to support businesses through other measures such as skills, with a talented pool of employees being available to them and by supporting our colleges and universities to provide skills and training opportunities for young people. There are many ways to support businesses rather than through direct cash grants. That would not have been the process to apply if the Department had other programmes like that in mind.
