Text
Each location is judged on its own merits and, as I said, against the departmental policy, which has been in place for a significant number of years. Safety — road safety and pedestrian safety — is one of the characteristics of that policy against which locations are judged. The other thing that we have to be mindful of — safety will always come first — is that street lighting, particularly in rural areas, can have a detrimental impact on fauna and on human health. We have to judge all those considerations against the current policy, but, where they meet our policy requirements, street lights will be replaced.
