Text
We have a number of small business research initiatives. One is being taken forward by the UK Space Agency that is about monitoring blue-green algae, and there is significant interest in that. Another is about tackling and, potentially, reducing the blue-green algae blooms in Lough Neagh. We recently announced a number of suppliers on that, and we will see how that works out in the time ahead because it is about research. We will do a further launch of that initiative tomorrow, hopefully with the First and deputy First Minister. Another initiative is about the sustainable utilisation of slurry, which is something that I strongly support and am passionate about. It is about moving from viewing slurry as waste to viewing it as a resource. We have appointed a number of suppliers — I was in Tobermore most recently, and I was also in Dundonald with Blakiston Houston Estates — and it is about moving to a situation where we can export the excess that we have to other parts of the world and generate electricity from it. That is a positive thing, and I thank my officials for progressing the SBRIs, because they are very positive.
