Text
Minister, the legal aid crisis is an access to justice issue. The legal profession is telling us that it can no longer afford to take legal cases, which means that it simply will not, so those who are in need of legal representation will find it harder to get. I am also concerned about sole practitioners in rural areas. It is their job. It is a reality that legal aid cases fund their role, and, in doing so, they provide that representation. How are we going to fix the situation and reassure the legal profession that it can continue to undertake that area of work?
